Palermo (Performance+)

easy to clean and long-lasting

An often heard concern in choosing fabrics - especially light-coloured ones - is: 'how will I keep it clean?' This is why we decided to curate a fabric collection that is easily cleaned and extra strong.

'Palermo Performance+' fabrics are treated with a PFAS free, nonionic soil and stain release finishing that is inherent in the yarn and commonly used in liquid detergents. This prevents soils from adhering to textile fibres and facilitates easy stain removal without the need of adding chemicals. Moreover, loose cushion covers can be machine-washed at 30º.

The 'Palermo' fabrics beautifully range from beige colours, to greys and brown tones. Every neutral you could wish for. And the best part? 'Palermo' contains recycled fibres and is crafted in a zero-waste process. Learn more about the cleaning instructions and recycling below.

A zero waste production process

The production of Palermo fabrics is centered around making the most out of its most important resources: water and yarn.

Water ultrafiltration

The dyeing process of fabrics generates wastewater. By centrifuging the wastewater in an innovative ultrafiltration system, remaining textile particles are removed from the water. Next, the pH-level is re-stabilised and filtered once more, getting it ready to reuse again and again in the dyeing and finishing process.

Yarn recycling

In the weaving process of yarn, there's no way to avoid textile waste when the selvedges of the finished product are cut off. However, the selvedges and yarn leftovers of the Palermo fabrics are collected and compressed into bundles for recycling. The fabric waste is shredded to create loose fibers, which are then carded and spun into new yarn.

The regenerated yarn is woven back into new fabric thanks to the technique of double weaving, a constructional method with which a fabric is woven in two layers instead of one: this fully recycled added layer ensures that Palermo fabrics are extra sturdy and durable when they're upholstered on your furniture.

How to clean 'Palermo'

Stain removal

  • Treat stains as soon as they occur.
  • Remove any excess of soiling material using absorbent paper in the case of spills and oily stains, and a knife or spatula in the case of crusted or dried-on stains.
  • Wipe the stain with a clean cloth using a solution of lukewarm water mixed with a few drops of neutral detergent or handwash.
  • With persistent stains moisten or spray the upholstery fabric directly with soapy water and then rub. Repeat the treatment if necessary.
  • When the stain has disappeared rinse with clear water to remove all soap residue, and rub dry with a clean towel.
  • Let air-dry at room temperature. Do not use hair dryers.

Note: in case water rings or water stains remain after the cleaning, clean the entire surface area of the sofa cover, from seam to seam.

Machine washing

  • Wash the sofa covers inside out and with the zipper closed.
  • When the sofa cover uses Velcro instead of a zipper, attach a protective cloth or strip over the Velcro, this to avoid damage to the fabric.
  • Use neutral detergents and do not use softener.
  • Wash at the recommend temperature (in case of doubt, wash at 30ºC), using a washing program with delicate cycle.
  • Use minimum centrifugation (800 rpm).
  • Do not wash with other textiles and do not load the washing machine excessively.

Drying

  • With the cover still moist stretch in both directions.
  • Dry flat at environmental temperature.
  • Avoid direct exposure to sunlight.
  • Always assure that the cover is completely dry before usage.
